Bilingual Outreach Manager (HEALTH EDUC SUPV 2)-SOM: MED:PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCES
Job Summary
Under the direction of the study site PIs and supervised by the Program Director, this position serves as the Outreach Manager for the Greater Sacramento Women's Brain Health (GROW) Program. GROW was developed to provide health screening, health education, and research opportunities for women living in Oak Park and other neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento area. Women are more likely than men to develop Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and often assume caregiving responsibilities for loved ones with dementia. For women of color, not only is their risk of dementia elevated, but they have been historically excluded from dementia care, education, and research opportunities. GROW aims to address these disparities using a community-oriented approach to research, outreach, and health education. GROW will conduct health education and outreach events in communities throughout the Greater Sacramento area; these events are open to all. The events will focus on providing our local communities with information, tips, lessons, activities, and resources to incorporate health practices crucial to brain health and chronic disease prevention. Topics include, but are not limited to nutrition, physical activity, mental health, cardiovascular risk factors, and diabetes, among others. These outreach and education activities aim to bring community wellness to different neighborhoods throughout the Sacramento area.
The Outreach Manager, in collaboration with the site PI, Program Director, GROW Leadership Team and community partners, is responsible for designing, conducting, managing, and evaluating the community engagement strategy for GROW. This will include identifying community partners and building relationships, implementing community health engagement and health education programs, and evaluating/analyzing the success of these efforts. This is a strategic position that will help us understand the impact of our outreach and education efforts and pivot as needed to ensure effectiveness in disseminating brain health education broadly. The Outreach Manager ensures that all health education, outreach, and recruitment efforts are scientically accurate and appropriately tailored to the diverse target communities. The position also supervises a team of community education professionals including overseeing staff training and performance, setting goals and priorities, and monitoring quality and quantity of work to ensure goals are met. Through communication with community partners and program participants, the Outreach Manager collects data and gathers feedback to provide results to project leadership.
