Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Educator III for the department of Emergency Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School.
As a team member, assists with the planning, organizing, and implementation of the health education programs. Identifies and promotes individual and public awareness of health needs and sound practices. Utilizes Hospital and community resources and strives toward health promotion and disease prevention, with a focus on HIV, Hepatitis C, and Hepatitis B testing and linkage to care.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Participates as a team member with the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of health education programs for patients, staff and the community.
Assists in the development and/or review, evaluation and selection of patient educational materials.
Educates patients on HIV, Hepatitis C, and Hepatitis B. Offers testing and linkage to care.
Reviews, evaluates and maintains samples of equipment used for teaching patients with special needs.
Contacts associations, societies and pharmaceutical companies for health information, pamphlets and teaching aids.
Participates with Nursing Services through supervisory or management levels to develop the ability of staff nurses and other support staff to acquire teaching skills and to update health knowledge and practices.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or a related field plus two (2) years of experience or a Master's Degree plus one (1) year of health education experience.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Work Environment:
Position requires flexible work hours to accommodate patient needs, and candidate is required to be on site during assigned hours. These hours can include evenings and weekends.
