Purpose/Summary:
The Physical Education Teacher is a key member of the physical education teachers, responsible for delivering a dynamic K-8 physical education program that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and student well-being. In alignment with Chandler’s mission, this position fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where all students are encouraged and challenged to grow physically, socially, and emotionally. In addition to physical education classes, the teacher will coach athletics teams, develop curriculum, promote safety and wellness, and contribute to our school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the physical education team to plan and implement a comprehensive K-8 curriculum emphasizing goal setting, participation, skill development, and personal fitness.
- Teach all assigned classes, incorporating knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, movement, dance, team sports, and other learning activities.
- Plan and grade lessons, as well as other P.E. related assessments.
- Coach assigned middle school sports (anticipated sports to include football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, swimming, track, baseball and softball).
- Develop age-appropriate curriculum and enrichment programs to promote physical and social-emotional growth.
- Instruct students in citizenship, sportsmanship, teamwork, and other subject matter related to physical education.
- Work collaboratively with other physical education teachers and administrators in planning a balanced physical education program.
- Analyze, model and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provide individualized support and small group instruction to help students improve performance and meet the needs of each student, to the extent feasible, offering alternatives during class to accommodate different levels of fitness.
- Work with students individually when necessary to assess fitness and health progress, improve performance levels, and achieve overall physical education success.
- Prepares proper equipment for each class, provides appropriate safety instruction and performs safety checks on equipment and field areas, ensuring the overall safety of students and the care of equipment and facilities.
- Supervise students during recess, locker rooms, and other designated times as assigned.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, support school wide events, and assist with special events and activities as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching at the middle school or High School level.
- Participation on multiple athletic teams during high school and college

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or related field.
- Preferred background as an athlete in high school and college in a team sport.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Previous experience working with children in a school, daycare, summer camp or similar environment is preferred.
Environment & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and carry items such as sports equipment or activity supplies, typically up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to work and supervise children in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, or rain, or field trips.
- Ability to drive school vehicles for athletic events or other educational purposes, as needed.
- Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching to interact with children at their level, assist with activities, or manage supplies.
- Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and a varied and diverse array of contacts;
- Ability to move around the school campus, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
- Moderate noise levels typical of a school environment, including student conversations, classroom activities, and occasional events.
- Standard school-day schedule, with occasional evening or weekend work for special events, meetings, or professional development.
