Position Description: Verde Valley School seeks a Director of Health Services to manage the comprehensive health services operations at our boarding and day school serving adolescents in 9th - 12th grade. This position comes with housing on campus as part of the compensation package. Primary Responsibilities: - Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, works with faculty, staff, parents, and students to implement health policies and procedures consistent with evidence-based practice.
- Manages student health records and communicates pertinent information to families and appropriate staff members while respecting student privacy and adhering to HIPAA/FERPA standards.
- Provides care, coordination, and follow up for student health concerns while on campus:
- Provides a walk-in clinic during school hours for first aid, medication administration, and referral of mental health needs to the Director of Student Support Services/Dean of Students/Head of School.
- Manages attendance of illness-related absences.
- Responds appropriately to mental health crisis situations in collaboration with the Director of Student Support Services/Dean of Students/Head of School.
- Manages all campus medication ordering, administration, and documentation, including PRN medication and first aid supplies.
- Inventories and organizes medications in the Health Center and medication lock boxes in order for Administrators on Duty and assigned staff to access after hours.
- Reviews and manages all medication distribution records in the online Reach platform.
- Communicates with parents, prescribers, and pharmacies to ensure intended care and timely refills of student medications.
- Follows up with staff regarding student medication and/or documentation concerns.
- Provides coordination, transportation and parent communication for off-campus health needs and services.
- Provides annual orientation and staff development on health related topics:
- Educates staff on safe medication administration practices and documentation expectations.
- Assists in coordinating wilderness medicine certifications.
- Obtains a CPR instructor certification to teach and certify staff members in need.
- Coordinates health and wellness education and curriculum as requested by the Director of Student Support Services.
- Administers, collects, and reports the results of student urine drug screens to the Director of Student Support Services.
- Manages student immunization records and ensures all students are compliant with state law requirements.
- Submits insurance claims for international student health insurance policies and ensures proper coverage is given on all related medical bills.
- Assembles, updates, and administers first aid kits for dorms, main office, field trips, and sports.
- Manages the AED machines and supplies ensuring all items are organized, up-to-date, and functional.
- Communicates with the Director of Student Support Services, Dean of Students, and Administrators on Duty regarding after school and weekend health needs.
- Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of School and/or Dean of Students /Director of Student Support Services.
- After hours expectations:
- Student health records — organization of information and communication to parents regarding health concerns and health packet or immunization deficiencies.
- Procurement of health center and program medical supplies.
- Coordination with the Director of Student Support Services/Dean of Students to prepare health orientation for annual staff and student RA orientations (per orientation schedule).
- Assistance with wilderness medicine certification courses.
- Available after school and weekends for phone consultation by Administrators on Duty (exceptions made for illness or vacation).
- Available after school hours and on weekends when reasonable to address emergency student needs.
- Additional weekends required for orientation and mandatory school events.
- Summer hours are variable but necessary to prepare for the upcoming school year:
Qualifications: - Current Registered Nursing License.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Previous experience working with high school children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must enjoy working with adolescents.
