Berkeley Hall School is looking for an energetic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Primary (1st–3rd grade) and 4th–5th Boys Physical Education Teacher. Candidates for this position embrace the BHS Physical Education mission to empower students to fulfill their God-given potential as lifelong movers through physical literacy. They are expected to teach student athletes to make sense of a variety of factors in athletic environments to move with decisiveness, effectiveness, and efficiency, based on SHAPE America’s National Content Standards. This position provides an educational environment that is safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate.
This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:
Teaches PE Classes for primary (1st–3rd) grades and 4th–5th
Develops and delivers curriculum (scope & sequence) for all 5 sections, yearly plans, unit plans, daily plans, assessments that are age-appropriate and standards-based in collaboration with the Athletic Director, including plans for Human Development Units for 4th and 5th grade boys.
Stays current on best practices and pedagogical approaches to teaching physical education.
Monitors locker rooms for safety, student behavior, and cleanliness.
Collaborates with PE & IM/MS Departments about curriculum alignment and implementation, rubrics and assessment, scheduling of facilities and activities, equipment, and major events.
Maintains class webpages with up-to-date information and news.
Proactively develops professional teaching practice through professional associations, education, reading, professional development, and contact with other schools, and stays current with the latest teaching and subject matter research and trends.
Communicates with parents, as appropriate, regarding tardiness, absence, health, accidents, grades, materials, concerns, and discipline issues.
Supports team sports through assisting with major components of field/court setup (e.g. lining field, bleacher placement, scoreboard setup), recruitment, uniform management, substituting as coach or scorekeeper for practices or games, stocking first aid kits, and other duties as needed.
Assists with special projects in the Athletics Department—Assembly, Track Meet, and other projects.
Plans and leads developmentally appropriate SEL and character education activities for students which align with BHS mission and core values.
Actively engages in SEL and DEIB professional development and implementation.
Cooperates with administration to ensure effective function of department and delivery of education to students.
Participates in school-wide events and programs as needed (i.e., electives, coaching, club facilitation, advisory, outdoor education initiatives, admissions, house days, duties/ supervisions).
Maintains First Aid/CPR & Lifeguarding and other certifications.
Follows guidelines for fulfillment of duties as described in the Employee Handbook.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts/Science degree (required)
Teacher certification (preferred)
Three to five years’ successful coaching experience, preferably in a school setting, and management of teams
Live Scan and TB Clearance

Terms of Employment:
This is an exempt position. Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, long-term disability, and a retirement plan (with up to 7% employer match). Hours on campus are expected from 7:15 am–4:00 pm. As an exempt employee, work outside of these hours, including nights and weekends, may be required to fulfill the essential job functions of this position.
