Role Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative School Counselor to support the social-emotional growth and well-being of our students. The counselor works closely with students, families, and staff to foster self-advocacy, strengthen executive functioning, and promote a positive, neurodiversity-affirming school culture. Trillium Academy serves students from grade 4 through grade 12. The School Counselor serves students with a wide range of developmental, social, emotional and behavioral needs. Additionally, the School Counselor works with the faculty to support the unique strengths of the student community.

Our school is designed to cater to the needs of our students, recognizing their exceptional talents alongside their learning differences. With teacher:student ratios lower than typical private and public schools and a focus on fostering positive relationships, we create an environment where students can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally in grades 4-12. This is a place for students to learn how to be productive, independent, civic-minded adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling
• Develop behavior intervention strategies
• Assess and respond to concerns regarding safety to self
• Support restorative practices, peer mediation, and conflict resolution
• Collaborate with teaching teams on social-emotional learning (SEL) and executive functioning strategies
• Communicate and collaborate with families and external behavioral health providers
• Develop and implement individualized student support plans
• Contribute to a supportive and inclusive school community
• Collaborate with administration to develop proactive and reactive support systems
• Support post secondary planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Experience as School Counselor strongly preferred
• Licensure (or eligibility) in Washington State (preferred)
• Experience supporting neurodivergent or 2e students preferred
• Experience supporting students with emotional regulation challenges
• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
• Flexible, student-centered, and strength-based approach

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Regularly sit, stand, walk, and operate standard office equipment
• Lift and move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Occasional evening and weekend commitments
• Frequent movement between classrooms and shared spaces
• Supervision duties during arrival, lunch, recess, and dismissal
• Participation in school safety drills and behavioral support interventions
• Emotional resilience to support students with diverse needs
• Regular use of technology and virtual meeting platforms

Special Requirements

• Successful completion of a background check
• Valid Washington State driver’s license preferred
