POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for healthcare management for students at Randolph-Macon Academy including education, prevention, and treatment. Responsible for the management of nursing staff personnel, including shift assignment, vacation manning, management of the R-MA Clinic supplies, records, in and outpatient care, scheduling physician visits and student appointments, managing medication administration and resupply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes and protects the optimal health status of R-MA students, faculty and staff.
• Identifies patient care requirements for students at R-MA.
• Documents patient care in on-line medical charts and record.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
• Medication administration – secures all prescribed medications for students and ensures daily administration of medications as prescribed
• Maintains clinic supplies; anticipates supply needs and orders accordingly; ensures receipt of supplies and documents receipt with the Commandant.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment.
• Reviews medical records of all incoming students to determine medical needs, R-MA’s ability to provide required care, and ensures each student has viable insurance coverage.
• Develops procedures and provides for emergency nursing management for illnesses/injuries. Maintains certification to teach CPR, First Aid and AED classes for staff and faculty
• Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as liaison health professional between home, school and community. Contacts parents of any student requiring “higher level” care, ER visits, and injuries.
• Schedules nursing coverage, physician visits, and student appointments.
• Coordinates with Finance on all Accident Reports providing any medical and treatment information concerning the reported accident.
• Must be flexible with hours and some weekend work and on-call as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• RN licensure in the state of Virginia with either a Multi-State license under the Multi state Licensure Compact or single state license in Virginia; CPR certified
• Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information. Must be comfortable communicating, via voice, email, or in person with parents, physicians and school staff.
• Must have knowledge of principles and practices underlying professional nursing; current trends in nursing; organization and administration of other cooperating agencies; and State and local laws relating to health and social issues.
• Analytical ability is required in order to find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
• Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software
• Must believe in and support the mission of the Academy
