Santa Fe Preparatory School invites applications for a full-time Health Coordinator/School Nurse. The ideal candidate will be relationship centered, detail-oriented, positive and energetic as they fill this pivotal role in fostering a safe and healthy school community. This is a twelve-month salaried position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Delivery of Health Services:
Ensures comprehensive delivery of health services to students.
Provides age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care in a safe environment.
Provides emergency care and first aid for all students and employees.
Reviews, administers, and documents immunizations as deemed appropriate for student health.
Authorizes exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
Health Education and Communication:
Educates parents and staff about healthy practices and treatment conditions.
Advises teachers and consults with parents on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health concerns.
Communicates effectively in school and community settings with students, staff, parents, and care providers.
Coordination and Continuity of Care:
Assures and coordinates continuity of care between settings and caregivers.
Makes appropriate referrals based on data obtained from screening procedures.
Coordinates planning with interdisciplinary colleagues at the national, state, and local levels in the coordinated school health service program.
Policy Implementation and Management:
Implements health policies and procedures of the local district and state health agencies.
Manages and oversees the medication policy.
Works in conjunction with the Director of Experiential Education to determine and define health and safety protocols generally, as well as for specific students.
Assists in supervising, training, and delegating health and well-care needs/assignments
Administer medication within scope of practice and delegate appropriately
Delegate procedures about medically fragile students to other staff as needed.
Record-Keeping and Monitoring:
Monitors and manages medical information in a timely manner.
Maintains student health and immunization records and performs appropriate follow-up.
Uses nursing processes to develop goals, objectives, action steps, and assessments of programs.
Consultation and Resource Provision:
Serves as a consultant and resource person to staff, parents, and medically fragile students by identifying community resources.
Serves on and/or attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum.
Serves on accommodation plan meetings when the student has a health condition that affects his/her ability to learn.
Serves as a consultant in matters of school health, safety, health education, and sanitary conditions.
Coordinates community immunization clinics, blood drives, etc.
Professional Development:
Participates in in-service training programs, workshops, and continuing education to maintain professional credentials and competency.
Attends all mandatory in-service training meetings.
Other Responsibilities:
Performs all functions in accordance with established SFP policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures.
Assists the Leadership Team in the performance of any other health and wellness-related assignments.
Occasional travel to locations to assist school programming in emergencies.
Maintains professional standards at Santa Fe Prep.
Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of Santa Fe Prep.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Graduate of a registered nursing program.
Minimum of LPN certification required (RN is preferred).
CPR/AED certification required.
2+ years of experience in school nursing, community health, or public health.
Knowledge of nursing process and theory, standard nursing practices and procedures, immunization requirements, communicable disease prevention and control, and HIPAA/FERPA regulations.
Knowledge of state and federal guidelines that affect student access to healthcare.
Proficiency with electronic sphygmomanometer, electronic thermometer, computerized record keeping, and other medical equipment required by individual student's needs.
Flexibility, organization, excellent decision-making, and effective problem-solving and communication skills.
Advanced interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations both in person and on the telephone.
Ability to meet deadlines and submit reports in a timely manner.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private transportation.
The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations, at times bending, squatting, and reaching.
Physical strength and ability to assist injured students and staff members by positioning or moving them according to established procedures in emergencies.
Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 40 pounds.
Ability to sit and stand for long periods.
Willingness to be regularly exposed to disease and injury.
