Lower School
Guided by the mission of the school and Rowland Hall’s strategic plan, the Lower School is a place of joyful learning. The Lower School faculty is composed of caring and knowledgeable teachers who are passionate about elementary education, skillful in creating a learning environment in which young students can thrive, and committed to continuous and collaborative professional growth. Lower School teachers, students, and families value the strong sense of community established in grades 1–5, and the unique learning experiences that the school provides each student, via the classroom curriculum, through our Specialties Program (Science, Art, Music, PE, Computer Science, Spanish, Library), and in our Ethical Education and Social-Emotional Learning Program.
Position Summary
The Lower School seeks a full time PE teacher who will work effectively with the PE team and grade level teachers to plan and implement the curriculum. In addition to teaching, this person will communicate proactively with students, their families, and colleagues, contribute positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trips, etc.), and serve on all-school committees as requested or desired.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and teach engaging PE lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and developmental needs of students.
Assess and evaluate student progress, providing timely feedback and completing progress reports as scheduled.
Demonstrate cultural competence in teaching practices and interactions with students, colleagues, and families.
Stay current with research and best practices in physical education and child development, adapting methods and curriculum as needed.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialty teachers, and staff to integrate physical education within the broader school experience.
Contribute to a collaborative and caring school community, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Coordinate and participate in special school events, such as Color Day and Specialty Family Fun Night.
Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the administration.
Skills and Requirements
B.A. or B.S. in Physical Education or related field required
Successful experience teaching elementary and preschool age students required
Knowledge of elementary PE curriculum required

lift 35–40 lbs and move around PE equipment to prepare/clean up from classes;
Move easily around a gym and field to engage with students, whether teaching or supporting their practices;

be able to contribute in an organized and productive manner as a team member of the PE department.
Additional Information
This is a full-time exempt position beginning August 1, 2025, that reports to the Lower School Principal.
