Reports to: Director of Physical Education & Athletics
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Start Date:July 30, 2025
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm; additional time as needed for after-school coaching, meetings, and professional development.
Responsibilities:
Teach daily lower school physical education classes
Coach middle school athletics teams as determined by the Director of Physical Education and Athletics, which extends beyond the regular school hours
Establish a physical education classroom environment that is student-centered and developmentally appropriate
Utilize effective instructional strategies, including but not limited to: balancing appropriate amounts of instruction and activity time, minimizing time off task, maximizing student engagement, giving timely and appropriate feedback to students, and consistently providing active supervision to students
Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessment of student achievement
Implement classroom- and team-management techniques that align with the school’s culture
Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, phone calls, emails, texts, and conferences
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the school community
Participate in school events and community service projects
Actively engage in a robust assortment of faculty professional development opportunities offered to AOS teachers
Additional duties as determined by the Director of Physical Education & Athletics
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in health, fitness or education; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 3 years coaching and teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
