Brookstone seeks to employ a Kindergarten through 8th Grade Physical Education teacher and coach who is energetic, enthusiastic, engaged, and dedicated to a whole-child approach. Expertise in child development, as well as a deep knowledge of content and instructional best practices, is essential. Additionally, a desire to be both innovative and supportive of each division's approach to learning and coaching is crucial. Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Athletics:
Coach multiple sports at both the middle and high school levels.
Train and mentor student-athletes, fostering skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Ensure athletes compete at their appropriate ability level while minimizing the risk of injury or illness.
Motivate students to explore new sports and athletic pursuits.
Transport student-athletes, school teams, and staff to and from sporting events.
Teaching & Instruction:
Develop and deliver engaging Physical Education lessons that promote goal setting, active participation, and a love for movement.
Incorporate inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies into instruction.
Teach fundamental concepts of Physical Education while guiding students in critical and analytical thinking.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
Supervise and facilitate both indoor and outdoor PE lessons.
Student Development & Well-Being:
Foster students’ academic, social, and emotional growth through intentional lessons on core values, personal development, leadership, and community commitment.
Provide timely assessment and feedback on student performance, including grading and quarterly academic updates.
Communicate effectively with parents to strengthen student learning experiences, lead parent conferences, and maintain a positive home-school partnership.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
Work collaboratively with division and department members in a respectful, professional manner.
Actively participate in team planning sessions for both academic and social initiatives.
Stay current with research and best practices by engaging in professional development opportunities such as workshops, seminars, conferences, or advanced coursework.
Additional Responsibilities:
Supervise student clubs, class trips (including potential overnight trips), and daily break and lunch duties.
Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
Uphold and enforce school policies, administrative procedures, and regulations.
Adapt instructional programs as needed based on guidance from the Head of Middle School and Head of Lower and Intermediate School
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree or higher in Physical Education or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with significant experience, certification, and/or specialization in Elementary and Middle Grades education. A minimum of three years of teaching experience is required, along with experience coaching multiple sports and working with student-athletes in both competitive and developmental settings. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of physical fitness, exercise science, stretching techniques, nutrition, and sports recovery, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of rules, regulations, and best practices for various individual and team sports.
Additional Skills/Abilities: The candidate must be able to create engaging, differentiated lessons that promote skill development, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for mentoring student-athletes, fostering a positive team culture, and upholding the school’s values. A commitment to professional growth and staying current with best practices in teaching and coaching is highly desirable.
