Title of Position: Director of Athletics and Physical Education Teacher
Required Credentials: Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college. A minimum of three to five years of physical education teaching experience. A minimum of two to five years of experience as an athletic director or in a comparable leadership or management role.

Desired Professional Experience and Personal Attributes:
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and passionate about the important role of athletics and physical education in girls' development. All candidates must have broad experience teaching and coaching girls, as well as demonstrated success in administrative and leadership positions. This leader in wellness and athletics will have excellent oral and written communication, a keen eye for evaluating coaches, strong financial management skills, and proficiency in applicable technology. Candidates should be confident, adaptable, emotionally intelligent, versatile problem-solvers and committed to collaboration. Experience in envisioning and building outstanding programs in physical education is highly desired.
Passionate about all-girls schools and able to articulate their value proposition
Outstanding communication skills (particularly listening with empathy) and a proven track record of being an effective manager and community builder across multiple constituencies
Excellent leadership and organizational skills, having the ability to hold an inspiring vision while also paying close attention to important details
Keen understanding of best practices in independent school athletics and trends in girls’ schools
A leadership style characterized by kindness, authenticity, integrity, discretion, self-awareness, humor, flexibility, diplomacy, and trust
Ability to engage in and facilitate difficult and/or delicate conversations with students, parents, and colleagues
Primary Responsibilities:
Leadership
Lead a vigorous athletics program that appeals to girls with varying abilities, with an eye toward healthy competition, skill building, fitness, teamwork, and resilience
Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in structuring a successful athletics program in an urban setting
Represent Hamlin at all league meetings
Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate all coaches and related personnel
Coach teams with enthusiasm, expertise, and care
Supervise all on-campus athletics events
Regularly attend away games
Recruit and train staff and/or students for all home games: score table; book; and clock.
Develop policies and procedures related to coaching responsibilities and team participation
Balance the budget, which includes facilities, athletics, uniforms, officials, and equipment
Plan and execute annual Field Day
Work in close partnership with the Business Office to issue coaches’ employment agreements
Maintain accurate records and statistics regarding all aspects of the athletics program
Promote the athletics program to prospective and current students, parents, faculty, and alumni, as well as to the wider community, through open houses, school newsletters and website
Work with administrators to ensure that safety standards are met. Serve on the Safety Council.
Establish and maintain systems of communication for students, parents, and faculty regarding schedules, opportunities, policies, and other related updates
Develop partnerships with non-league schools for scrimmages with Hamlin teams, and arrange intra-Hamlin squad scrimmages as needed
Carry out other duties as assigned by Middle School Division Head
Teaching
Teach developmentally appropriate and engaging physical education classes in a safe and nurturing environment to Grade 7 and 8 students
Provide meaningful feedback to students about their skill development
Assess student progress, maintaining specific and accurate records
Prepare for and clean up after class activities and in shared teaching spaces
Attend to the social and emotional needs of the students
Maintain and store all equipment
Coordinate with classroom teachers regarding individual students’ progress
Set behavioral expectations, and hold students accountable
Write report cards
Participate in parent conferences as requested
Communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents regarding students
Plan and participate in curriculum nights and back-to-school orientations
Plan and develop class routines
Make time for one-on-one interactions with kids

Duties and Expectations: Departmental Responsibilities
Serve as P.E. Department Coordinator
Communicate with department members regarding shared classes
Observe departmental colleagues and provide feedback
Plan and lead department meetings
Manage P.E. department budget
Grade Level/Team Responsibilities
Document behavioral or other concerns using Student Information System
Attend student support meetings as needed to communicate about students of concern
Help plan, organize, and chaperone field trips when appropriate
Attend outdoor education trips as needed
Middle School Responsibilities
Represent the department in division meetings and full faculty meetings; report back to department when appropriate
