Bolles Middle School students continue to develop their identities and build their independence under the guidance of caring faculty and advisors. At the Bolles Bartram Campus students learn responsibility, decision-making, and time management as they explore their interests in academics, arts, community service, and/or athletics. The middle school curriculum encourages students to expand their interests while they also prepare for the challenges and rigor of upper school. The programs offered in middle school begin to take on a more demanding pace for which the faculty works to prepare students. Higher concepts in each subject are introduced by faculty specializing in that subject.

Position Purpose: This role involves instructing Middle School students (grades 6–8) in physical education while fostering their physical, social, and emotional development. The teacher will also serve as an advisor and a seasonal coach for one or more athletic teams, supporting students’ growth through teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development. Due to the need for locker room coverage, preference will be given to female applicants.
Essential Functions:
Develops and implements a comprehensive PE curriculum aligned with school standards and the developmental needs of middle school students.
Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate students' varying needs and interests.
Plans and conducts activities that provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice.
Teaches individual and team sports, leveraging knowledge of sports techniques and students’ physical capabilities.
Sets clear objectives for lessons and communicates them effectively to students.
Collaborates with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and enhance the PE program.
Maintains attendance and grade records in accordance with school policies.
Serves as an advisor, leading advisory activities, supporting advisees’ social-emotional growth and academic progress, and effectively communicating with parents.
Attends field trips, including overnight grade-level class trips as needed.
Participates in parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress and address concerns.
Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops to stay current in the field.
Coaching Responsibilities:
Serves as a seasonal coach for one or more athletic teams, fostering skill development, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
Designs and leads practice sessions and game strategies for student-athletes.
Mentors student-athletes, emphasizing personal growth, resilience, and teamwork.
Communicates effectively with student-athletes, parents, and colleagues regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
Ensures compliance with school and league regulations, promoting the safety and well-being of all participants.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of three years’ experience teaching and coaching middle school-aged students preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of and ability to support the developmental needs of middle school students.
Experience coaching middle or upper school sports, with a preference for crew, lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, or golf.
Proven leadership, facilitation, and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods.
Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as sports gear, gym mats, or other instructional materials.
Ability to engage in physical activities, including but not limited to, running, jumping, stretching, and climbing.
Capability to supervise and participate in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Ability to respond quickly in case of emergencies or accidents during physical activities.
Capacity to guide and support students in learning proper techniques and movements, which may include providing physical demonstrations or adjustments.
