Position Summary Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for an experienced part time School Counselor for Preschool through Grade 8 for an immediate start date. The School Counselor will provide direct support and guidance to individual students and will consult with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding the social emotional needs of students in Preschool through grade 8. The School Counselor will play an important role in building a healthy, safe, and inclusive culture for all students. The successful candidate will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage.
Daily Responsibilities
Provide individual counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
Identify at-risk students and implement interventions to enhance success.
Work with the Lower and Middle School faculties to promote a positive emotional and academic climate in the school.
Assist families in addressing school-related problems.
Refer families to and consult with outside agencies, organizations, and specialists when necessary.
Respond to crises as needed.
Collaborate with learning specialists, division director, administrators, and others on a regular basis.
Serve on divisional student support teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field
Active New Jersey license as a clinician (school counseling, LPC, LMHC, LCSW, or school psychologist)
5+ years of successful school experience
Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Desire for ongoing professional growth and to join a community of learners of all ages
Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School.
