JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Health Sciences is currently seeking a full-time Faculty Tenure Track Position in Health Education to start Spring 2025 or Fall 2025 who will also serve as the program director.
Adelphi University is the premiere institution in Health Education Teaching Preparation on Long Island. The Health Education Program currently offers both a Masters in Health Education and an Advanced Certification in School Health Education. Also, it features dual certification programming with physical education as well. A recently developed 4 + 1 program allows students to earn a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Health Education in 5 years with many health courses completed during the initial four-year period and included in undergraduate tuition. Or students can combine a Masters in Physical Education with an Advanced Certification in School Health Education. The programs are housed in the department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Health Sciences. The department also offers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Physical Activity Studies, and Sport Management as well as graduate programs in Community Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Health Education, Nutrition, Physical Activity Studies, and Sport Management. These academic programs prepare practitioners, administrators, researchers and leaders within all relevant career fields.http://education-ehps.adelphi.edu/.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in initial and advanced teacher certification, such as health education methods, K-12 health promotion, school health programs and policies, WSCC model, research and technology in health education, contemporary health issues, and health content courses.
Advise and mentor students.
Provide service to school, university, and community.
Establish or continue a focused research line within health education, health promotion, or a related field.
The Program Director is responsible for ongoing program implementation and evaluation; for collaborating with the Chair and faculty of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences and with the Dean and faculty of the College of Education and Health Sciences to assure a ‘state of the art' curriculum and foster interdisciplinary approaches for supporting in student recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with the University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned an academic terminal degree in Health Education or a related field. ABD candidates will receive consideration but need to have the doctoral degree earned by start by December 31, 2024 or May 31st depending on start date.
State teaching license in k-12 School Health Education preferred
Administrative experience as well as experience with accreditation, teacher certification, and student teaching are preferred.
Experience teaching pedagogy courses
Experience teaching onlineand integration of technology into teaching is preferred.
A track record of scholarship and service should be commensurate with rank.
Academic experiences with culturally diverse populations.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $76,000 - $78,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
