The Quaker School at Horsham (TQS) seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as the School Nurse. This role is essential for the health and wellbeing of the students. Administer first aid to sick and injured students, faculty and staff throughout the school day. This includes treating injuries and illness, and assessing the need for medical intervention.
Administer prescribed medications to students in accordance with medical orders and school policies.
Maintain accurate records of medication administration, including dosage, time and student information.
Collaborate with emergency response teams and local healthcare facilities.
Maintain accurate and confidential health records for each student.
Document all health-related incidents, assessments and interventions.
Work closely with teachers, special education professionals, and other support staff to coordinate care and provide accommodations as necessary.
Exclude students from school with communicable diseases. Coordinate communications with parents and local health authority notifications in the event of communicable disease outbreaks.
Maintain medical records for students with such information as emergency contact numbers, food and medication allergies, and specific health problems.
Maintain immunization records of all students.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Compassion, patience and empathy when dealing with students with special needs.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
Conduct school health screenings.
Provide school-wide trainings in topics of student health, such as epilepsy, sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), eating disorders, and serve as liaison for outside agencies.
Demonstrated nursing competencies, skills and experience:
Experience with nursing in a school based or community setting.
Current knowledge of STI’s, substance abuse, nutrition and eating disorders and management of chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes.
Current knowledge of emergency practice including cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of defibrillators (AEDs).
Ability to network effectively with health and allied health professionals and organizations.
Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services.
Provide crisis intervention for students and staff through the use of Safety-CARE techniques and technique instruction for de-escalation and physical restraint.
