Position Summary
The Hill School seeks a full-time (32-36 hours per week when school is in session) Registered Nurse to join a dynamic team of nursing professionals to work in a 9-12th grade boarding school health center. The Hill School is a residential boarding school with approximately 540 high school students from around the country and across the world. In this unique setting, the nurse is responsible to assess, identify and treat acute, chronic, and urgent health conditions among students according to standing orders, as well as to provide health, wellness, and disease prevention education during student interactions in the Wellness Center. Decisions made by this employee require discretionary, evidence-based judgment and analysis. The nurse should have considerable knowledge of adolescent health and be comfortable working independently; although the staffing structure is well supported by a Nurse Practitioner, a School Physician, and other nurses. A provider is always available on call.
The Wellness Center is open 24/7 during the 32 weeks of our Academic Year. This position involves a combination of day and evening shifts, including some weekend shifts. This position has a four day per week work schedule. In addition, this position will also require the nurse to have flexibility to rotate to all shifts, if needed.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Primary focus of the School Nurse includes but are not limited to the following:
- Provides care to students who seek assistance with health and wellness concerns of an acute and/or chronic nature;
- Provides first aid care, urgent care, and overall nursing interventions as directed by Wellness Center protocols and standing orders;
- Competently utilizes nursing assessment and interventions to support chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy;
- Maintains confidentiality of student medical information and competent use of electronic health record keeping;
- Provides professional, interdisciplinary, and collegial communication with Hill School nurses, providers, athletic trainers, and counseling clinicians;
- Confidentially corresponds with parents, coaches, Dean of Students, dorm parents, and advisers on healthcare needs of students, when indicated.
Ideally, a candidate will be a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred) with a current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania and preferably have prior experience in pediatric, adolescent, public health and/or School Nursing. This individual must be CPR certified with a working knowledge base of EpiPen administration, Blood Borne Pathogen protocol, and Narcan administration. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred, but not required.
This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks essential to the nursing role. The position will use a computer, including keyboard and monitor throughout each workday. Some bending, lifting, twisting, squatting is required. Visual acuity to type, read, and recognize students is required. Hearing ability is required to communicate with co-workers, students, and parents in person and via telephone.

- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services;

- Ability to implement and maintain electronic health records on students;

- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships while also working independently and collegially with all members of the Wellness Center Team
