The School Nurse at Edmund Burke School provides health services to students, and works in coordination with members of the administration to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Treat students when present, and respond to calls for consultation regarding emergencies during school hours
Obtain and administer care plans for students with ongoing conditions
Provide timely parent communication related to school medical forms and student health related concerns, and provide all school communications related to health concerns
Administer medication
Consult with teachers and school administrators regarding student care and medical leaves
Pack care plan information, EpiPens, inhalers and any other prescribed medication for students any time they leave campus for school trips
Reviews all current health plans, discuss students, check logs, and remove any expired medication
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
3 years of experience preferred
Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in D.C.
AED/CPR/First Aid certified
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work independently and with others
Ability to communicate well with others
Ability to assess situations and act quickly
Ability to multitask
Familiarity with working with adolescents
