National Cathedral School seeks a full-time physical education teacher and coach for grades 4 to 12 beginning August 15, 2023. The successful candidate can expect to teach the required Lower School physical education classes (grades 4-6) as well as coach three seasons Middle School (grade 7-8) and Upper School sports (grades 9-12). Preferred coaching experience in field hockey, soccer, and/or basketball.
Teachers in the physical education department at NCS are committed to a student-centered pedagogy, skill development, and the positive benefits of experiences outside of the classroom. The successful candidate must be able to teach fundamental, age- appropriate motor skills and concepts combined with a variety of sport specific skills. Sportsmanship, teamwork, and lifelong habits for a healthy, active lifestyle are the foundation of the physical education curriculum.
NCS is looking for an enthusiastic and positive candidate with the experience and knowledge to guide our programs forward. Salary is competitive, based on experience, and the position includes a full benefits package, including professional development opportunities. Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree (physical education, kinesiology, Nutrition and Health preferred) and have pertinent teaching as well as playing and/or coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
All faculty are involved in the life of the school through a variety of means such as leading a club, coaching a sport, or serving on a committee. Additionally, community members attend school functions, including but not limited to chapel and cathedral services, assemblies, and special events.
