The Middle School Counselor is a collaborative, communicative and flexible partner dedicated to advocate and support students at Monte Cassino. The counselor works with all members of the Monte Cassino community in facilitating students’ social, emotional and academic needs. Reports to: BLDG Principal / Head of School FLSA Status: Exempt
Essential Employee Traits and Job Responsibilities:
The Counselor is supportive/collaborative (60-70%)
-Provides individual student academic and social emotional support.
-Teaches monthly classroom lessons based on developmentally appropriate material
-Provides short term/problem solving counseling
-Provides referrals for long-term support
-Collaborates with families/teachers/administrators for student success
-Advocates for students when extra support is needed
-Plan and coordinate grade level retreats (sometimes overnight)
-Uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counseling Association
The Counselor is communicative (20-25%)
-Assists parents in their understanding the social emotional needs of their child
-Communicate with team members, teachers and parents regularly
-Bridge communication among school divisions/buildings and grade levels
-Contribute ideas and impressions at team and faculty meetings
-Present or lead professional develop groups about social emotional wellness
-Complete required paperwork documenting student strengths, weaknesses, and progress
The Counselor is flexible and responsive (5-10%)
-Assists the Head of School and Principal/Dean of Students in implementing innovative initiatives on campus
-Participates in REACH’s annual parent meeting
-Attends regular professional development
-Attends REACH team meetings in addition to faculty and all school meetings
-Follows all policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook

Minimum Job Qualifications/ Education:
-Master’s degree in School Counseling or Counseling.
Working conditions/environmental exposures:
-Will require mobility as the employee will be travelling across campus
-Employee must regard confidentiality and privacy as a high priority.
