School Nurse Beginning August 14, 2023
Position: School Nurse Reports to: Director of Health Services FLSA: Exempt, full-time Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000 commensurate with education and experience Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
We are seeking a full time School Nurse that works collaboratively with the Director of Health Services; Grades Pre-K to Grade 12.
Coordination of Care
Provide direct healthcare and monitoring during school days to students grades Pre K-12th grade.
Manage the health needs of students with chronic health concerns.
Administer first aid and provide emergency and preventive care to students.
Refer students and families for appropriate follow-up medical care, with follow-up contact with families for ongoing issues.
Administer medication and other treatments during the school day, as indicated and prescribed by a healthcare provider, with required documentation.
Triage students with medical emergencies during the school day.
Verify clearance of students to return to campus after illness.
Communication
Communicate with parents in the event of health-related emergencies during the school day.
Contact parents when a student becomes ill during the school day.
Serve as a liaison between school and medical professionals.
Clearly and effectively communicate with parents, healthcare providers, along with faculty and staff, regarding student health concerns while maintaining confidentiality.
Collaborate with the school psychologist/social worker to assess students physically and emotionally, and take appropriate steps to address student health needs.
Collaborate with faculty around field trips, to include preparation of first aid bags and student medications if needed.
Documentation
Maintain accurate electronic medical records including current medications, action plans, immunization records and injuries within the school setting on Magnus Health.
Maintain health records via Magnus Health, ensuring documentation of required immunizations and physical exams conducted by child’s health care provider and communicating with non-compliant families on a timely basis.
Professional Requirements
Registered Nurse with a current license to practice in the State of New York
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
CPR/AED Certification
Minimum three years of nursing experience in a school, hospital or clinical setting.
Experience with Magnus Health preferred
