Compensation currently is $21,600/yr with a paid Managing Editor. Open to negotiating compensation and staffing including a co-editor arrangement (with compensation divided based on level of effort).

The American School Health Association (ASHA) is announcing an open position of Editor of the Journal of School Health (JOSH). The contract begins July 1, 2023 and ends December 31, 2024.
As the Editor of JOSH, you will work closely with the Editorial Board on policy issues related to the Journal. You will also be expected to work collaboratively and oversee the performance of our publisher, Wiley.
As the ASHA appointed Editor of the Journal of School Health (JOSH), and under the guidance of the policies set forth by the ASHA Research and Publications (R&P) committee and the general supervision of the ASHA Executive Director, the Editor is expected to:
Coordinate the manuscript review process for JOSH;
Perform desk reviews of submitted manuscripts to determine relevance to the field as well as contribution to science, the journal and ASHA;
Critique the reviewers’ comments and make final decisions regarding publication of articles;
Prepare annual reports to the Executive Director;
Coordinate and facilitate JOSH Editorial Board meetings;
Recruit, retain, and manage Associate Editors;
Build relationships with authors and reviewers;
Attend ASHA Research and Publication Committee Board and Board of Director meetings and work closely with the Executive Director to implement the policies set forth by ASHA;
Work with guest editors and contributing editors on special issues and features;
Recommend annual revisions and updates to the JOSH Topical Packages;
As requested by the Executive Director, represent ASHA at meetings with organizations, agencies, groups and individuals who have an interest in the Journal; and
Attend the Annual ASHA Conference (at your expense)
Supervise the Editorial Support Staff Person, whose tasks include:
Work with the appropriate vendors to oversee the day-to-day manuscript and correspondence activity;
Schedule articles for publication;
Evaluate reviewers, and make recommendations for adding and removing reviewers;
Handle correspondence with authors, reviewers, members and others regarding special requests to the Journal.

The ideal candidate will be a school health researcher with a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, be available to dedicate approximately 20% of their time to Editor responsibilities, have organizational, supervisory, and relationship-building skills, and have a commitment to JOSH and ASHA.
