Since 1800, when St. Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in France, Religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart and lay Sacred Heart educators have carried out her imperative of educational excellence. School nurses work together across both Carrollton campuses to bolster the physical well-being of the student body. Nurses serve under the direct leadership of the Director of Health and Wellness, and in partnership with the academic offices and the admissions office. Additionally, school nurses provide guidance for current and potential community wide health concerns such as, but not limited to lice checks, health screenings, pandemics, etc. Candidates who are committed to professional growth, working with children, and servant leadership are encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission
Develop policies, procedures and work standards for school health program.
Monitor compliance of school health program with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies.
Prepare health reports for supervisor, board of education and health department.
Collaborate with other child-support agencies in designing and providing a school health program.
Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program.
Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services.
Maintain security of school health supplies.
Serve as a resource person on health issues.
Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff.
Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required.
Recommend corrective action where problems are identified.
Conduct home visits when appropriate.
Correspond with parents on health needs of children.
Record immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
Utilize research to inform best practices
Participate in reflective, self-directed, on-going professional development
Participate in staff meetings, liturgies, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back to school night, admissions showcases, and graduation as needed
Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness
This is a 12 month position that supports students during the academic year as well as during the summer camp programs.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree
Strong communication skills
Demonstrated success with effective use of technology
Certification by the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) or the National Association of School Nurses (ANA)
Licensed as a registered nurse; experience in pediatrics and/or public health is preferred
