Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 945 students and employs over 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking an experienced Upper School Counselor to join our expert faculty and provide social/emotional support to students in grades 9 through 12, as well as their families. Working closely with Upper School administration, Learning Resource specialists, Upper School teachers, parents, and outside professionals, the Counselor identifies and addresses social/emotional and health-related issues with individual students as well as with student groups. To this end, the Counselor is responsible for the following:
Coordinate staffing for students in crises or experiencing academic difficulties
Consult regularly with teachers and families
Teach a ninth grade Health class
Teach Senior Seminar
Refer students and families to outside providers
Participate in grade cohort meetings and student support meetings addressing student issues
Facilitate counseling groups based on student/cohort needs (i.e. new students, divorce/separation)
Assist with school-wide initiatives that address social/emotional support
Help coordinate services within the School between teachers, Learning Resource teachers and other professionals
Help coordinate services with outside professionals (e.g., tutors, therapists)
Accompany class groups on overnight trips (strongly encouraged)
Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
A Masters degree or above in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or School Counseling
Experience providing individual and group therapy to older adolescents
Significant experience and/or training in school settings
Social-emotional skills that are professional and the use of sound judgment
Demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and curriculum
Enthusiasm for professional development and continuing to grow knowledge about student development
Adept at clear and tactful communication with adolescents, their families, and colleagues
