The Philadelphia School (TPS) is seeking a full-time Interim Physical Education Teacher & Coach for the 2022-2023 academic year. We are a Preschool - 8 progressive, independent school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with an enrollment of 410 students. Since our founding in 1972, The Philadelphia School has grown in size, complexity, and diversity. This growth has been rooted firmly in the progressive values with which our founders began: immersive learning, responsive pedagogy, and meaningful engagement with the world.
We seek to hire a teacher who will bring an immersive learning experience to our physical education department. The physical education teacher will use innovative curricular design to leverage health, wellness, joy, and physical movement across all grades. The position requires the ability to teach a wide range of learning styles, and abilities, and to have expertise for bringing physical education to our youngest learners in preschool through second grades. Coaching interscholastic after school sports, up to three seasons, would be a preferred part of the total position.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Teach physical education and health/wellness courses and coach as needed
Offer a cohesive movement curriculum that allows students to explore their skills and interests
Record and provide accurate information on student physical progress to students and their families
Collaboratively design and document curriculum
Coach at least 2 sports in the school’s 3 sport season
Promote athletics in the community and beyond
B.A. required; Master’s Degree in a related field of study preferred
Coaching experience in at least two different sports
2+ years teaching experience in early childhood and/or early elementary education strongly preferred
An orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
A collaborative spirit with an interest and ability to work in a flexible, team environment
Strong understanding of child development, including the social, emotional, and intellectual domains
An ability and commitment to create a warm, nurturing, and supportive classroom for young children
Passion for instilling in children a lifelong love of learning
