The Baldwin School is seeking a temporary leave replacement for a School Counselor in our Lower School, anticipated from September 2022 - January 2023. The Lower School Counselor reports to the Director of Lower School and provides a robust, student-centered Lower School counseling program that supports the social and emotional well-being and development of all students in grades Pre-K to 5. The Lower School Counselor provides short-term individual and small group counseling and teaches school counseling lessons, which focus on social-emotional learning. The Lower School Counselor works in partnership with Lower School faculty and families to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development and needs at school. The ideal candidate will be experienced at providing counseling support in a diverse and inclusive school community.

Professional responsibilities:

• Provide short-term individual and small group counseling as appropriate to address social and emotional needs which may impact learning at school
• Create and teach school counseling lessons, which focus on social-emotional learning
• Use evidence-based practices, research, and student needs to inform decisions and
  programming that support the social and emotional well-being and development of all Lower School students
• Consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding a student’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development and needs
• Provide guidance and support to parents around child development and issues related to mental health
• Provide referral to, and engage in consultation with, appropriate outside providers
• Collaborate with the Baldwin Academic Social Emotional Supports (BASES) team to promote student success

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or related field; current PA School Counselor Certification preferred
• Three or more years of relevant experience providing counseling services to school age students, ideally within an independent school setting
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
• Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to organize, manage, and follow up on multiple priorities
• Strong knowledge of the ethical and legal considerations related to school counseling practices
• Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment
• Commitment to the school’s mission, values, and vision
