Lansdowne Friends School seeks a part- or full-time School Counselor for the 2021-2022 school year. We envision this person playing a key role in supporting and guiding students with their social and emotional development.
Key parts of the job include:
Promoting an atmosphere of trust and building rapport with students by being visible and developing positive relationships;
Working with students 1:1, in small groups, and in whole class settings to develop the skills and strategies needed to be successful in and out of the classroom setting;
Collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support and guide students;
Helping the teaching and administrative team to address concerns related to a student’s social, emotional, and behavioral well-being;
Offering guidance during conversations crucial to the health, well-being, and self-worth of any and all students;
Coordinating with teachers and administrators to support an overall school culture that is developmentally appropriate, that is welcoming and inclusive of all children and families, and that fosters strong community connections;
Collaboratively planning and teaching lessons which focus on establishing a core of social and emotional competencies;
Partnering with classroom teachers, with the Reading Specialist, and the administration to communicate with parents and outside support providers;
Acting as a liaison between the school and outside professional support providers, in addition to actively connecting families with private and public social and emotional support resources;
Supporting administrators and teachers to develop policies regarding conflict and disciplinary protocols; and
Participating in the life of the school, including supervision duties and school/community events.
Key qualities and qualifications sought include:
Advanced degree in school counseling or social work
Experience working as a school counselor
Teaching experience in an elementary school setting preferred
Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic
Works well as a member of a team
