National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a School Nurse. Start date is flexible based on candidate’s availability. The nurse would join a growing health office in supporting the health and wellness of all students in grades 4-12. The nurse would report to the NCS lead school nurse. The ideal candidate would be a thoughtful and compassionate healthcare provider who is able to handle a busy Health Room. This role requires a nurse who is collaborative, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multi-task. The nurse must be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and school personnel. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, the nurse delivers health services for students in a timely manner; offers assessment and medical referral; educates the community on important health issues; identifies health problems; collaborates with parents, primary care physicians, the NCS athletic trainers, and teachers to develop student healthcare plans; and ensures the safety and health of the community. NCS is particularly interested in candidates with experience in school health, pediatrics, concussion management, triage, and community health. An ideal candidate is technologically savvy in order to manage the online systems that communicate and distribute medical information. A candidate with familiarity with the Magnus Health documentation program is helpful.
A successful candidate will be able to balance both clinical and administrative work. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Provide general first aid, emergency care, and administration of medication for students, employees, and guests, including collaboration with families
Document all student Health Room visits in the school’s EMR system; communicate student visits with parent/guardian and NCS staff members, as appropriate
Provide acute injury, disease, and well-being management including, but not limited to, orthopedic injuries, diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, ADD/ADHD, and depression
Assist with review and maintenance of annual school health forms
Coordinate the acquisition of supplies and materials necessary to efficiently run the Health Office, and maintain proper inventory of health supplies
Ensure up-to-date medical records to assure compliance with District of Columbia mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
Prepare First Aid supplies and medical forms for school field trips
Support NCS crisis team in the event of medical emergencies
Train NCS staff members on emergency medical needs: allergies/EpiPens, Narcan,
Assist the Head of School and Administrative team with the development and maintenance of school health policies
Manage databases of student and staff health information related to COVID-19
The candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, absent eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.

The school nurse must be available on campus from 7:30-4:00PM each day. The position is a 12-month staff position. Salary is competitive and based on experience. Responsibilities over the summer include review of annual student health records, procurement of health room supplies, and general school year preparation. Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in nursing and CPR certification from the American Heart Association. The school nurse must be a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) with a current DC license.
