The Health Educator, under general supervision, plans, implements, and evaluates theory and evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services for students for the Northwest Houston Center and College of Nursing Campuses in Houston, TX. Provides health training and guidance. Performs outreach functions on and off campus and supervises student staff, interns, and/or peer educators.
This position is funded through the CARES Act/MSI funding and will continue as needed for the 2020 â“ 2021 academic year.
Provides ongoing awareness and education regarding COVID for faculty, staff and students located at North West and Nursing sites.
Coordinates and administers PPE and testing for North West and Nursing sites.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in Health Education, Public Health, or Health Promotion
Two years of related experience in health promotion.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of responsibilities and competencies of health education.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze emerging health promotion needs of adults and college students.
Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on the college campus.
Ability to do presentations, workshop trainings, individual behavior change sessions, and small group discussions and facilitations.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
