Westmark School is currently seeking an experienced Physical Education Teacher who will also serve as Department Chair. The Physical Education Teacher is the lead PE teacher for one division and may assist in teaching other PE classes. Develops curriculum for students with language-based learning differences in grades 2-12. The PE Department Chair will facilitate a comprehensive curriculum based on the latest research on neuroplasticity while creating an appreciation and understanding of the importance of physical activity. The Chair supports the Director of Athletics in developing, administering and supervising the Athletics program consistent with the mission, values and pedagogical goals of the school.
The Physical Education program provides an all-inclusive curriculum based on the development of lifelong wellness skills enhancing movement and physical abilities, and offers active experiences to improve cognitive and affective aspects of development. The curriculum is designed to integrate physical skill, self-awareness, and sportsmanship. Our ideal candidate will possess an understanding of children’s academic, social, and emotional development, and familiarity with the Physical Education Framework in California. The ability to teach non-team sport activities such as Pilates, yoga, and strength and conditioning, and a willingness and background to coach interscholastic sports is a plus.
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in related field and 3 - 5 years of experience preferably in an independent school setting
Credential, graduate degree or extensive graduate work in the field of Special Education or learning disabilities preferred
Ability to individualize lessons to fit the students’ needs
