The Physical Education teacher at Bayhill High School teaches 5 periods of PE to classes of 5-12 students. Additionally, they coach our sports program that includes basketball, team handball, volleyball, and flag football. Basketball is the most popular sport at our school and we often play a fall and winter season, thus the PE teacher/coach should have a great deal of basketball experience and expertise. Bayhill is part of the Bay Area Small Schools sports league and the physical education teacher/coach plays a leadership role within the league.
Employee Duties & Responsibilities
Upholds the school’s belief in fairness and equity in education by demonstrating awareness and respect for all students with regard to sex, sexual identity, religion, race, color, national and ethnic origin.
Provide instruction in areas of expertise (art, music, foreign language, technology, Physical Education, etc.) by delivering high quality lessons to students.
Coach after school sports teams and provide leadership in the league.
Manage the classroom to maintain a safe, secure, and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure, clear expectations, and consistency.
Maintain a firm, fair, and consistent approach to the instruction of students and promote student involvement by reinforcing positive behaviors.
Ensure the rights of students are observed and protected through the use of appropriate respectful communication with fairness and equity.
Project a positive role model image for students and colleagues by participating as a team member, cooperating with staff, demonstrating compromise and appropriate expression of opinions; by attending staff meetings as required; by actively participating in all other school related activities/functions, to include clubs, extracurricular activities, and school events (school picnic, Back to School Night, Open House, etc.)
Utilize chain-of-command in all aspects of program and follows Staff Procedures and Expectations Manual.
Maintain appropriate relationships with the students by treating students in a respectful manner at all times, by eliciting students interest cooperation, and by maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Maintain confidentiality of all student records per program guidelines.
Responsible to communicate and cooperate with families, relevant external personnel, and staff members, ensuring all communication of information - written or verbal - is clear, concise, legible, accurate, and courteous.
Assure the classroom physical environment is conducive to learning by maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom work areas, including but not limited to desk, shelves, and storage areas.
Complete specialized trainings necessary for NPS compliance or the general safety and security of students and Bayhill High School.
Follow the expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Staff Procedures & Expectations Manual.

The mission of Bayhill High School is to educate students with learning differences, focusing on their individual learning needs, with the goal of maximizing their inherent abilities and their potential to succeed. A small high school in Berkeley, CA, Bayhill provides a WASC accredited program, A-G approved course work to students with dyslexia, ADHD, high funtioning Autism, and other learning differences. Our neurodiverse student body has average to above average intelligence, but struggle to learn in a large high school due to learning differences. Many of our students have strengths in the arts or sciences.
