New York Military Academy, an independent boarding/day school in the Mid-Hudson Valley, seeks a full-time School Counselor to promote and support the mental and physical health of the student community. Candidates should minimally have a minimum of a Master’s Degree (Doctorate preferred) and should have experience working with adolescents in an educational environment. Familiarity with a wide range of learning styles and knowledge of IEPs is a plus.
We are seeking an energetic and highly organized individual whose duties would include:
Support faculty in their roles as advisors and teachers;
Working with faculty members as a trainer and providing advice about students of concern;
Counseling and crisis management with students, faculty, and families about psychological and emotional issues;
Meet with parents and participate in parent conferences as needed;
Meet regularly with the senior administrative team to discuss students of concern
Offer workshops for students on important mental health issues (e.g., stress, body image, etc.);
Maintain a current and accurate referral database of mental health service providers; connect parents with outside therapeutic referrals as needed; and coordinate with outside providers working with students;
Maintain accurate clinical notes regarding students;
Provide parental support and guidance related to child development as needed, especially around adolescent issues;
Possibility of teaching one or more additional electives.
