Job Description As a Sacred Heart Educator, the counselor’s primary purpose is to provide a nurturing and attentive presence to the social/emotional and developmental needs of boys. The counseling environment that is established must be in accordance with the Goals & Criteria of the Sacred Heart mission.
Lead as the primary resource for faculty/staff, parents and administrators in striving to enhance and support a healthy social/emotional school environment
Assist division directors in collaborating on behavioral and social concerns.
Serve as a resource for faculty when consulting on developmental and social/emotional student matters.
Coordinate with outside professional counselors, therapists and psychologists to interpret psychological testing and support the student learning environment.
Provide short one-on-one counseling when referred by teachers and administrators.
Coordinate and direct a character education program for all students in each division.
Consult with parents to understand the social/emotional needs of students.
Support and lead with resources a bully prevention and awareness program.
Serve on the student services team with the administrative leadership.
Conduct parent education roundtable discussions on social emotional topics impacting boys.
Create character lessons and collaborate with teachers in all divisions to address the wellness of the whole child.
Work in conjunction with the Head of Lower School and the Lower School teachers to implement the discipline plan.
Coordinate school-wide testing for ERBs.
Develop and practice cultural competence.
Maintain networking of local, outside professionals for student/family referrals.
Actively participate in grade-level, divisional and all-school team meetings.
Bachelors Degree required; major in Counseling/Psychology preferred
Experience in the educational environment
Experience working with students with behavioral, social/emotional challenges
Strength in organizational and communication skills
Knowledge of and proficiency with utilizing technology
