The School is currently seeking a part-time (50%) School Counselor, who is trained in child and adolescent psychology, to work together with our current full-time School Counselor and our part-time consulting therapist. The part-time Counselor will focus primarily on individual student meetings and small-group work. Compelling candidates will have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, a knowledge of social media and technology, and a sincere commitment to young people. Particular expertise working with girls, BIPOC students, and LGBTQ students is preferred. The particular configuration of hours is flexible, and can be negotiated; Winsor expects to conduct fully in-person school starting in August.
Provide short-term counseling to students on an as-needed or emergency basis.
Consult with families and refer, when needed, to outside mental health services.
Develop collaborative professional relationships with outside therapists in order to support families in seeking outside therapy.
Speak with parents individually who have concerns regarding child or adolescent developmental or mental health.
Create an atmosphere of compassion, confidentiality, and collaboration with students, families, colleagues and administration.
Work collaboratively with the full-time Counselor and consulting therapist on issues related to the mental health of the community.
Serve as a resource for staff, faculty, students, and families around all aspects of mental health and wellbeing
Participate in parent meetings, at the request of the deans, class coordinators, or division heads, where emotional concerns are complex.
Provide guidance and expertise on the developmental, cognitive, and psycho-social issues children and adolescents.
Maintain records of all counseling sessions and family communications.
Advise student clubs or offer small-group meetings, as requested.
Report to the Wellness Department Head
Perform other duties as assigned.
At least 5 years experience as a therapist, in private practice or in a school setting
