Buxton School seeks to hire a full- or part-time mental-health professional to support its students starting Fall 2021.
Buxton is a small, progressive boarding and day high school in Williamstown Massachusetts. Founded in 1928, Buxton has been educating students to be engaged citizens of the world through challenging academics, community responsibility, a broad and deep arts program, and intentional lived experience for almost 100 years. Deliberately small, Buxton is designed to give its students real responsibility and effective agency in the feel and function of the school.
One of the hallmarks of the school is the supportive, trusting, and impactful relationships between students and faculty and, as a result, much of what a school counselor would do at a bigger, more traditional school, already happens in the give-and-take between students and teachers at Buxton. That said, the world has gotten increasingly complex and families, students, and teachers are faced with more challenges than ever. The school counselor would help us support our students more effectively and serve as a resource for our faculty and staff.
For this position, we are looking for a candidate with a social work, counseling, or psychology degree at the master’s level. The shape and scope of the job would be determined in collaboration with the school counselor, the faculty, and the Head of School. On-campus housing is available, but living on campus is not a requirement of the job.
Buxton is a proudly diverse school, and we are an equal-opportunity community in every way. We seek candidates who can embrace the unique ethos of our school and the uniquely curious, creative, smart, questioning, challenging, and amazing students who live here.
If you are interested in applying for this position, please send a cover letter and resume to Franny Shuker-Haines, Director, at Franny@buxtonschool.org. (Please use the subject line “School Counselor.”)
