At The Frances Xavier Warde School, our gym program provides students with a curriculum that encourages physical activity and the development of fine and gross motor skills. Students actively participate in games, activities and sports that contribute to their growth, development, and social attitudes. The physical education teacher facilitates structured physical activities which provide a variety of learning experiences to meet the needs of all students. During these grades, we especially work to foster problem solving, team work, good sportsmanship and healthy life habits.
The physical education teacher is responsible for educating the whole child by providing a quality learning experience to all children in his/her care. The teacher must possess the knowledge and theory to instruct in the content area while using age appropriate methods and procedures.
The Physical Education Teacher reports to the Principal and is evaluated, supervised and mentored by the Principal and or Assistant Principal. Other key relationships s/he include the Head of School, other FXW faculty members, staff, students and parents.
Qualification and Requirements
A candidate should hold:
A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Education and Physical Education
A valid, issued State of Illinois teaching certificate in Physical Education
A Master’s Degree in the special area is preferred
1-3 years previous experience
The middle school teacher must be able to teach 6 blocks or 90 minute classes
A candidate will need upon hiring:
A TB test
Compliance with Archdiocese of Chicago Protecting God’s Children guidelines
Provide proof of citizenship
A candidate must demonstrate:
The ability to establish collaborative relationships with peers, staff, supervisors, parents outside vendors and resources.
Familiarity with ISACS criteria and standards of excellence
Follow professionalism guidelines as defined in employee handbook/orange binder
Physical Demands of the Position and Work Environment
Classroom instruction requires long periods of time standing and moving around the classroom/gym during the day
Demonstration of techniques and movements of subject matter during instruction time
Ability to lift 10-50 pounds
Ability to move up and down stairs while supervising students
