The ideal candidate for the High School Mental Health Counselor position will be a licensed clinician, psychotherapist, psychologist or social worker; licensed for more than 3 years; have significant experience working with teenagers; and exhibit a passion for working with young people and a curiosity for all aspects of their experience.
The High School Mental Health Counselor forms a team with the Director of Counseling. They work together and separately to provide a creative, inclusive and equitable counseling practice, a mental health curriculum for students, and relevant training to student peer counselors, faculty, and staff. Urban counselors are committed to empowering and inclusive methods of therapeutic practice in a school setting. Current influences include: Narrative Therapy, Somatic and Emotional Literacy, and Mindfulness practices. In addition to staffing Counseling offices and spaces on campus, Urban Counselors participate in a wide range of programming and group projects within the Urban community.
