![]() Health Educator 4 - SOM: Department of Neurology Sacramento Campus Department Description The Department of Neurology is a clinical, research and academic Department within the UC Davis School of Medicine. The mission of the Department is dedicated to the identification, care, and education of individuals with neurological disorders and is committed to discovering new knowledge in the areas of teaching, research, and clinical activities. The Department continuously fosters teaching, research, clinical neurological services and community service in health promotion and disease prevention. The White Matter Hyperintensities (WMH) are a common consequence of the aging process exacerbated by vascular risk factors. WMH also influence cognition and its evolution is associated with declines in both memory and executive function, while extensive WMH predict incident MCI, stroke, and dementia. WMH and infarction also have a negative impact on cognition independent or in addition to concurrent amyloid status. The impact of WMH is consistent with evidence that clinical dementia is a multifactorial process. The aim of this multi-site study is to develop a comprehensive model of dementia risk prediction by examining the impact of WMH on brain structure and function in a group of 2,250 individual self-identified as African American, Hispanic, or Caucasian, above 65 who have cognitive complaints of memory loss. Study participants will be recruited from 10 or more Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRC) located across the United States. Participants will have annual evaluations, blood sampling, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The measures will be analyzed centrally. The Health Educator will also evaluate progress towards goals and objectives, manage clinical research program training issues, implement program strategies and objectives, analyze situations, and provide recommendations for goal achievement. Other duties include respoonsibilty for expense management, site and vendor management. Required Qualifications
