Title: Upper School Counselor Job Status: Full-time starting in the 2021-2022 academic year; Exempt
`Iolani School is seeking a full-time Upper School Counselor to support and foster students in grades 9-12. The counselor will report directly to the Director of Counseling and he/she will be responsible to provide personal, social, and academic counseling and guidance to students. The grade-level counselor coordinates all activity and communication involved in providing support for students, such as meetings with students/families/teachers/administrators when a student is experiencing an academic or personal challenge. He/she will also oversee the academic scheduling process for students and teach a 7th grade guidance course throughout the school year. The goal is to enable students to achieve a sense of personal fulfillment in order to make a positive contribution to society.
The ideal candidate must have knowledge of contemporary theories of personality and counseling and the ability to work with a diverse population. Effective communication in a variety of settings, good judgement, and a demonstrated commitment to student support are qualities that we are looking for in a strong applicant.
A Master's degree in Secondary School Counseling and 3-5 years of experience working with students in grades 9-12 is preferred.
