The IDEAL School of Manhattan is seeking an inspiring, confident, warm, and experienced full-time school counselor to work with students in Grades 6-12 and in IDEAL’s Next Steps Transition Program. 

The IDEAL candidate will:

• Provide all mandated counseling with Middle/High School students—individual and group
• Work with students on an as-needed basis to provide individual and group counseling
• Communicate proactively and responsively with families about social-emotional issues and counseling
• Assess students and develop appropriate treatment goals and supporting documentation
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop practices and programming that supports the development of respectful, confident, and kind children and a culture of respect within the community
• Work effectively to resolve conflicts to the benefit of all involved
• Partner with Division Head and Head of School in all matters related to students’ emotional health and development
• Support teachers with addressing social-emotional issues in the classroom
• Stay current in best practices, articles, and research and possess a strong understanding of all aspects of the social and emotional development of children in grade six through grade twelve
• Work closely with Upper School leadership team to plan age-appropriate family education evenings
• Create lessons for advisory on boundaries, social-emotional health, conflict resolution, and other topics essential to the confidence and mental health of Middle and High School students
• Support the school in responding to external events by providing resources for teachers and families and working with students
• Work with teachers and advisors to develop and implement lessons on current events as needed
