Virgin Islands Montessori School and Peter Gruber International Academy is a Montessori/IB school with about 300 students (toddler through 12th grade) on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Thomas in the Caribbean. We are a non-profit, independent, private, international school that is looking for quality teachers who have a passion for teaching. Though we are an international school, we are not able to sponsor visa applicants, so qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

We have a Spanish Infusion program, as well as focus on Mathematics and Science. Our graduates are attending their first choice, top tier colleges and universities, such as: Harvard, Brown, US Naval Academy, etc. School Counselor Job Posting Job Description: The School Counselor provides guidance and counseling services to students and their families. They work in a school setting where their job description entails offering students social, emotional, and educational support. Must be comfortable designing curriculum / programs for the students surrounding social emotional learning (SEL). Viable candidates must have the: - ability to prepare and maintain accurate detailed records;
- ability to exercise patience while dealing with students and parents/guardians;
- ability to work harmoniously and effectively with all those contacted during the course of work (colleagues, students, parents and outside professionals) and demonstrate sensitivity and empathy
Key Accountabilities: - Assist students in understanding and overcoming emotional, social, or behavioral problems
- Provide group or individual counseling to address the needs of students
- Monitor and observe students to identify and address personal, emotional or social issues
- Refer students to health psychologists and other mental professionals for proper attention
- Consult with families and staff to highlight students’ needs and discuss strategies necessary for improved social and academic performance
- Plan and organize classroom counseling sessions to address personal development issues among students
- Develop and implement school counseling programs effective in meeting students’ needs
- Organize seminars to educate teenagers on the ills associated with drug and alcohol abuse
- Listen to students’ concerns and proffer recommendations effective in addressing psychological problems
- Guide and support school staff in implementing school advisory programs
- Employ responsive counseling in establishing positive relationships between teachers, parents, and students.
Essential Skills: - Problem-solving Skill: School counselors are able to provide solutions effective in addressing students’ academic, social, and behavioral issues
- Communication Skill: They are adept at listening/interacting with students to identify and help resolve their problems
