It offers cultural and recreational activities as well as a two major medical centers, a community college, a four-year university, and a school of osteopathic medicine.
The campus, which was renovated in 1995, featur...es four modern buildings connected by covered walkways. Included in the facilities are forty-five classrooms; two daycare rooms; library; Lower School science lab; Upper School labs for chemistry, biology, physical science, and Middle School science; state of the art Lower and Upper School art rooms; Lower and Upper School computer labs; two gymnasiums; a classroom for music and band; and a cafetorium. In 2002, the Dove Center was completed. It houses the Upper School English department, a computer lab, a computer classroom, art room, yearbook room, and the library. The school also maintains two playgrounds with one having a young children’s gazebo and the other newly renovated in 2005 with a covered area; along with a practice football field, and a practice baseball field. In 2013, a state-of-the art student activities center was built. Varsity games are played at a nearby community recreational center with some of the finest facilities in the Southeast.
In December of 2012, Houston Academy became a “MacBook School,” issuing MacBook Pros to all students in grades 5-12. Students in the lower grades have access to interactive smart board technology, as well as iPads. In addition, all teachers are issued MacBooks, and teachers teaching grades K5-4 are issued iPads.
Enrollment is currently approximately 700 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten/3 through 12. Enrollment for the school is at a historic high.
