Bullis School seeks an Upper School Counselor for the 2021-2022 academic year to support our caring and inclusive community. This position involves overseeing the emotional, social, and behavioral health and well-being of students in grades 9 through 12. This position has been newly created to join the existing US Counselor to ensure that we continue to meet the individual needs of our student body and address the collective wellness objectives of the Bullis Community. 

In collaboration with Upper School Administrators, the counseling team supports wellness education and school policies around mental health, bullying, and mandated reporting. Counselors at Bullis provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention to students and make recommendations for outside mental health and therapeutic support. Counselors coordinate the Peer Mentor program and use their insights into the needs of students and families to develop and facilitate relevant health education programs such as substance abuse awareness and education, healthy relationship dynamics, the senior transition to college, and other relevant topics. Counselors work with teachers to determine student needs, offer guidance, facilitate communication, and advocate on how to best support students in the classroom.

Essential functions of this position include:

• Serves as an advisor

• Assists and works collaboratively with the Upper School College Counseling Team as well as the Upper School Academic Support Team

• Assists with orientation programs for incoming ninth grade and transfer students and coordinates school activities pertaining to the school counseling program.

• Serves on the admissions committee

• Attends and participates in weekly Student Review Committee meetings to discuss student progress, to identify behavioral, academic, and other problems, for the purpose of providing solutions/strategies, and appropriate resources for students

• Devises and implements virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”

• Strives to improve leadership skills and knowledge through self-initiated professional organizations

• Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on committees as required.
