Academy of the Sacred Heart, established in 1851, is Michigan’s oldest independent school, offering a Catholic, college-preparatory education to girls (infant-Grade 12) and boys (infant-Grade 8) of many cultures and faiths. As a physical education teacher, you will prepare and teach lessons on all aspects of health (social, emotional, physical), as well as nutrition and fitness. You will work with students in PreK-Grade 8. A vital responsibility is to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle by leading fun, activity-based exercises that keep students engaged.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Continue the curriculum designed by the teacher on leave.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Organize games and challenges that promote physical activity.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Possess strong speaking and listening skills. In addition to being knowledgeable about an activity, must also be able to communicate and demonstrate it properly.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues.
• Communicate effectively with families.

Basic requirements include but are not limited to:

• Bachelor’s or higher in Physical Education/Health, with a current teaching certificate
• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
