As part of that team, our school counselor provides prevention and intervention services for students facing social and emotional challenges that impact academic performance, attendance, and behavior at school. You are an experienced school counselor who seeks to serve students in Classes PreK-12 to help them achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, and realize their full academic potential to become productive members of the school community and contributors to society. You have proven yourself to be a good listener and life coach with excellent strategic, diplomacy, and communications skills. You are flexible and resilient and model that behavior for others. You have a strong attention to detail and nurture lasting relationships with others through mutual trust, respect, integrity, humor, and sound judgment.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to:
Provide one-on-one and group counseling for students by appointment and on a drop-in basis, referring extended or emergent cases to outside professionals
Work with faculty and staff to increase understanding of students' mental health-related issues
Coordinate educational opportunities for faculty, staff, and families on relevant mental health issues
Respond to crises and participate in interventions to support students
Attend parent meetings with potential counseling concerns
Serve as a resource to parents for short-term consultation and education regarding mental health concerns
Meet regularly with school nurses, faculty, and administrators to discuss mental health issues
Collaborate with the School’s health services team and Learning Specialists with regard to student academic accommodations
Other duties, as assigned
Master’s or Psy.D. degree in social work, psychology, or related field required
Current LICSW or LMHC licensure required
At least 5 years of full-time experience in a professional counseling capacity working with students on issues related to stress, trauma, suicide, depression, bullying, grief, self-esteem, immigration, family life, drug and alcohol use, relationships, gender and orientation, and other topics
At least three months of full-time remote counselor experience highly desirable
Current knowledge, understanding of, and commitment to the ethical and legal guidelines of psychological practice and community mental health resources
Demonstrated ability to apply current counseling and psychology methodologies and techniques with specific knowledge of adolescent student development
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, and non-verbal)
Sound judgment and the ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality
Strong attention to detail and follow-through
Ability to work with a diverse population and nurture a culture of trust and respect
Success building strong and productive working relationships and effectively managing workflow and desired outputs across multiple teams, departments, and stakeholders
Effectively interact with colleagues, faculty, staff, administration, students, parents, and other community members to promote healthy living and choices
Ability to work independently and handle multiple competing priorities and deadlines simultaneously
