Job Title: Upper School Counselor

Division: Upper School

Reports to: Head of Upper School

Summary: King seeks an Upper School Counselor to work with adolescents ages 14-19, 20 hours per week.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Counseling students in a student-centered, inclusive, and solution-focused setting.
• Supporting students and their families in prevention work.
• Teacher Collaboration

• Advising teachers on best practices for students who may need support for a range of mental health issues

• Collegially collaborate with teachers and administrators within the Upper School.
• Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.

• Participate in all required meetings.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress as necessary.

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of adolescent development .
• Bachelors required, licensure preferred (LCSW, LCFM).
• Demonstrated competence in racial literacy and intersectional aspects that impact adolescent development, including but not limited to gender identity, class, sexual orientation, and ability. 
• Cross-cultural competency, ability to communicate, work, teach and learn in a diverse community of students and staffulty.
• Experience working as part of a team. 
• Proven experience developing and implementing prevention programming for students and parents (teaching experience is a plus).
• Maintaining ongoing communication with any of the student's outside support systems
• Proven ability to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
• Proven ability to encourage student discovery and autonomy of thought.
• Possess a sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents.
• Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery and skill development.
• The candidate should be organized and able to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail. 
• Excellent communication skills and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
• Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission, Virtues, and Diversity Policy.
