Merion Mercy Academy, a leading independent Catholic girls’ school outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, currently seeks a part-time school nurse for the 2020-21 school year.
The school nurse works collaboratively to respond to the immediate health needs of individual students, maintains the overall health and safety of the Merion Mercy community, and promotes a culture of wellness for girls. The ideal candidate will possess both strong clinical skills and sound judgment. She or he must have initiative, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality. Candidates should have the ability to connect with and serve the needs of a diverse student population and possess the interpersonal skills to communicate with respect, discretion and courtesy. Personal characteristics necessary for the position include positivity, enthusiasm for all aspects of school life, warmth, a good sense of humor and patience.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the school nurse will:
Ensure safety of students and employees by promoting effective health practices as dictated by standards of practice and professional codes of behavior of the Pennsylvania State Nursing Board.
Provide instruction in the maintenance of good health, wellness and disease prevention.
Provide first-aid, medical care and services to students according to physician-prescribed care and treatment orders.
Create and maintain documentation of medical treatment plans, treatments performed and all other medical services provided.
Communicate with parents and employees about sick or injured students.
Provide ongoing health information to students, parents and school personnel.
Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through immunization review, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases. Monitor for allergies and infectious diseases during the school day.
Maintain medications and first-aid kits in the nurse's office and administer medications at appropriate times.
Respond to emergency medical situations; perform first aid and/or emergency treatments as indicated; coordinate with local emergency personnel and agencies as required.
Collaborate as a member of the Student Support Team, the Safety Committee, and the Concussion Team to providemedical and emotional support to families and students in need.
Create and maintain systems and procedures to ensure the safety of students and employees in light of the COVID-19 outbreak and other new health issues as they arise.
