Oldfields School, an all girls’ international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, located in northern Baltimore County, seeks applicants for a licensed registered nurse. This is a full-time, exempt 10-month residential or non-residential position requiring work and on-call hours outside of regular business hours.
The Oldfields School nurse promotes health and safety across the Oldfields campus by coordinating care with the Director of Health Services, school counselor, local public health department and medical providers. The nurse is responsible for communication with parents, faculty, administration and staff in order to provide a safe and healthy academic, athletic and boarding environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS
Help manage 24-hour Health Center operation and on-call hours in order to provide a safe and healthy academic, athletic and boarding environment.
Coordinate care with local public health departments, medical providers, school counselor and athletic trainer.
Communicate with local and state public health departments to prevent or control communicable disease.
Communicate via telephone or email with parents regarding all illness and injury and advise day parents on return to school and/or activity protocols.
Manage the packing and dispensing of daily medications and OTC medication.
Administer prescription and OTC medication as necessary.
Manage daily COVID-19 symptom checks for all students, faculty and staff.
Facilitate testing, tracking and temporary quarantine of boarding students suspected of COVID-19 or other infectious diseases until the student is safely removed from campus.
Help maintain documentation of all health and immunization records, of all students, through Magnus Health Tracker software before and during the school year.
Arrange medical appointments with local physicians and providers for the treatment of boarding students with acute illness or injury, including medical, dental and orthopedic appointments as needed. (May require the transportation of students).
Coordinate with the Director of Residential Life, Administrators on Duty and Athletic Trainers to facilitate transportation of boarding students to medical appointments.
Assist students with education and management of chronic medical conditions, i.e., asthma, allergies, diabetes, etc.
Act in loco parentis for all boarding students requiring off-site medical evaluation and treatment.
Follow a rotating weekend on-call schedule with other Health Center staff. Occasional overnight hours as needed.
Health and Wellness Team member
Have the ability to provide tobacco, drug and alcohol education.
Responsible for maintaining inventory of PPE, AED and all medical supplies.
Assist with insurance claim filing for all boarding students.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Current Maryland RN license - BSN preferred.
Able to obtain all MD required clearances for work in a school setting and have a valid MD driver’s license.
Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support certification.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and adapt to the changing demands of a school population.
Willingness to work within a boarding school schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Proficient verbal and writing skills to facilitate communication with parents.
Act as a liaison between school personnel, family, health care providers, and the school community.
Work in partnership with the School Counselor in assessing physical, mental and emotional needs, with an emphasis on the safety of our students.
Attend Health and Wellness team meetings in the Director of Health Services’ steed.
Promote a warm and nurturing environment in the Health Center.
Maintain confidentiality of all health-related information.
Enforce all School policies and procedures inline with the mission of the School
Proficient with Microsoft Office software; Excel, and Word.
Experience with Magnus Health Tracker or similar software.
Must be able to respond to onsite emergencies.
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for extended periods.
Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects.
