Reporting to the PS Principal and PS Assistant Principals , the PS Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Primary School Physical Education Teacher’s key responsibilities are outlined below. The Principal and/or Assistant Principal may assign additional duties in support of School objectives.

1. Plan and implement clear, well-thought-out lesson plans and curriculum that reflect a balanced physical education program connected to real-world context.
2. Analyze, demonstrate, and explain knowledge, skills, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
3. Create an established set of expectations for thinking, learning, and purposefully engaging in the discipline.
4. Create and promote a learning environment that is inclusive; inspire learning, collaboration and reflection; foster student independence.
5. Focus students’ attention on big-picture issues, important ideas in the world, and making meaningful connections within and beyond the discipline.
6. Use a variety of instructional and assessment methods to meet the needs of all learners and provide varied forms of feedback.
7. Execute distance education when directed and needed to include alternative teaching and learning delivery methods: develop online courses reflecting best practices, provide student support to include alternative assignments and assessments, collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and students online to build a connected and positive learning environment.
8. Use technology purposefully in the classroom to enhance learning.
9. Highlight students’ successes and areas of growth through assessment. 
10. Communicate in a timely, clear, and effective manner with students, parents, and colleagues, including during Back to School Night and celebrations of learning.
11. Actively seek opportunities for professional growth.
12. Represent WIS in a manner that reflects the Mission and the Core Beliefs of Learning.
13. Work with management and staff in a constructive, collaborative, and cooperative manner.
14. Monitor the academic, personal, emotional, and social progress of students. 
15. Ensure the safety of students, following supervision standards and guidelines in common areas.
16. Use digital platforms (e.g. Seesaw, onCampus) to provide feedback and information to parents and students; complete progress reports and report cards in alignment with school requirements.
17. Implement support strategies with the Student Support Team (SST) and communicate with parents regarding support. 
18. Supervise students in transitions throughout the day, e.g. arrival, recess, lunch, specials classes, dismissal. 
19. Fulfill administrative tasks, such as timely completion and correction of attendance. 
20. Work with Admissions to support appropriate acceptance and placement of students

at WIS. 

21. Keep accurate and reliable materials in designated substitute folder. 
22. Engage with students, colleagues, and parents to foster a sense of community.
