Island Pacific Academy is currently accepting resumes for an elementary (K-5) Physical Education (PE) teacher position for the upcoming 2020-21 school year. The ideal candidate will have elementary Physical Education teaching experience. Other attributes of an ideal candidate include experience providing differentiated instruction based on students’ needs, effective communication skills, and flexibility in one's perspectives on teaching, learning and student achievement.
The learning environment at IPA is founded in the constructivist approach and is highly interactive, where children are encouraged to learn through inquiry and hands-on experiences. The PE teacher is expected to be fully supportive of the school’s mission and be an active participant on her/his team and the greater life of the school.
The PE teacher is responsible for organizing innovative games and challenges that promote physical activity among all students. The PE teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. Helping students to understand the importance of a healthy life-style including exercise, safe play, healthy eating habits and rest is also key to the PE curriculum. The PE teacher is responsible for organizing related events, such as the end of the year Kickball game/Field Day and supporting grade level learning experiences such as Grade 3 Fun Fitness activities.
